How far would you go for a direct experience with the divine? On a quest for spiritual awakening, a naturopathic doctor and an accountant journey to the Peruvian Amazon to drink the hallucinogenic brew called ayahuasca, the ‘Vine of the Soul’. Their encounters with the sacred medicine, both terrifying and ecstatic , raise questions about faith, mystical experience and self-knowledge through a heightened state of consciousness. Featured interviews with ethnobotanist Dennis McKenna, addiction physician Gabor Maté and scholar Kenneth Tupper speak to the increasing use of ayahuasca beyond the Amazon and what that might mean for the future of Western medicine, spirituality and the growing ecological consciousness.
