Louise Rosen Ltd. was launched in 1996 to specialize in setting up international television pre-sales and co-productions on behalf of independent documentary and non-fiction producers. We also provide consulting services to advise filmmakers and production companies on finance, development, production, marketing and distribution strategies. Previously, Managing Director Louise Rosen operated a program distribution company that represented all genres of programming – from children’s to arts to drama and features. That company was started in Boston and operated for almost fifteen years, with offices in London and Los Angeles.
From the beginning, LRL developed a reputation for representing strong history and social issue films, as well as incisive cultural documentaries. Science is also of interest, providing it is either inter-disciplinary or has a somewhat edgy, subversive element (rather than simply cheering the advent of the new). Although they still face great restrictions in the marketplace, we’re trying to support and encourage the reemerging opportunities for arts docs. |

| For possible representation, LRL prefers to consider projects at an early stage, while they can still be refined and adapted to achieve their maximum international potential. We look for one-off 46 – 56 minute programs or series of up to 4 episodes. Feature length projects (that include plans for hour-long versions) are also of interest. Single films that can serve as pilots for longer series may also be of interest. We work with first time directors, as well as highly experienced producers and seek to establish fully transparent, highly collaborative relationships with our clients. Over the years we’ve been honored to represent producers and projects that have gone on to win Oscar, Emmy, Sundance, Prix Italia and other awards.
Stylistically, we gravitate towards distinctly “authored” work and away from “surveys”. We’re attracted to a disciplined yet creative approach to shooting and excellent research and writing skills, more than special effects and equipment-dependent scenarios. Where appropriate, we like advocacy…but not polemics.
We attend several different annual program markets/festivals such as – MIP-TV, HotDocs, SunnySide - and other events as applicable to each season’s roster of projects, for example the History Makers Summit, Sheffield and IDFA. Our newsletter is released twice each year - spring and fall, and we send out frequent news bulletins with project updates. |
